A League of Your Own

Think back to your childhood…perhaps you played in a sports league, such as hockey, baseball, soccer, or basketball. It probably didn’t occur to you then that you were doing something good for yourself—you were just having fun. Now that you’re an adult, it doesn’t have to be any different.

Not just for kids anymore

Maybe you’ve tried going to a traditional gym or fitness club, but the routine of it is just not for you. Or maybe you’re looking for something to add to your existing routine to break the monotony. Playing a sport in an organized league could be the answer. Sports facilities offering adult leagues have grown in popularity across the country recently. You don’t have to be extremely competitive or be a “topnotch” athlete to join and get the benefits of participating in a sports league. You just need to have an open mind and be willing to try something different.

Try something different

Besides the more popular choices already mentioned, there are many other sports you can try (either in a league or on your own), including some that you might not have considered. Here are some examples:

8 reasons to play sports

  1. Give a “purpose” and focus to your workout.
  2. Meet new people.
  3. Reduce stress and promote relaxation.
  4. Increase your confidence.
  5. Improve alertness and awareness.
  6. Improve your mood and reduce depression and anxiety.
  7. Promote mental well-being.
  8. Promote a healthier lifestyle.
