Healthcare Choices that Fit Your Life

In Rhode Island, it’s easy to find great care that works with your schedule—and saves you money.

Urgent care centers and emergency rooms used to be your only healthcare choices on nights and weekends. Both can have long waits and high costs. But now you have convenient ways to get care when you’re sick or have a minor injury. Here’s how to make the most of your options.

Choose a primary care practice with extended hours and other great features

Need a doctor? Or looking for a doctor who can see you quickly when you’re sick? Consider an Advance Primary Care practice.

What's new and different

Blue Cross has been working with many of Rhode Island’s top primary care practices to help make healthcare more simple, safe, and affordable. Advance Primary Care practices help meet all of your healthcare needs in a single location, from well visits to sick visits.

When they're open

Some practices have extended hours, including nights and weekends. If you’re sick, you can get an appointment the same day you call or within 24 hours.

What to expect

  • Electronic health records, so doctors have access to your medical history 24/7
  • Patient portals where you can email your doctor and view medical information, including test results
  • New patient appointments within 48 hours (available at some practices)

Find an Advance Primary Care practice

Get to know the advantages of MinuteClinics

You may have seen a MinuteClinic® in your local CVS/pharmacy®. If your primary care physician isn't available, a MinuteClinic may work for you.

What's new and different

These clinics offer care for minor illnesses and injuries. You'll pay less than you would for an urgent care center or emergency room visit.

When they're open

Seven days a week, including evenings. No appointment is needed.

What to expect

After you’re treated at a MinuteClinic, make sure that information about your visit will be sent to your doctor. If you don’t have a doctor, they’ll help you find one!
