Free Screenings Can Save Your Life

Many types of cancer are "silent," meaning you'll have no symptoms until the disease has advanced and is harder to treat. By getting preventive cancer screenings, you have a greater chance of finding the disease early. Blue Cross plans cover certain cancer screenings at 100 percent when you see a doctor in our network. Talk to your doctor about which screenings you should have and if they are covered at no cost under your plan.

Colon Cancer Screening

Who needs it
People ages 50+

Why it’s important
Colon cancer is caused by slow-growing polyps in the colon (also called the large intestine). Removing these polyps can prevent many cases of colon cancer. Screening can also find cancer in its early stages.

Deaths that could be prevented
More than 60%

Breast Cancer Screening

Who needs it
Women ages 40-74

Why it’s important
Breast exams alone—done by you or your doctor—have not been found to lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. The best way to find breast cancer is with a mammogram, which is an X-ray of the breast.

Deaths that could be prevented
Nearly 30%

Cervical Cancer Screening

Who needs it
Women ages 21-65

Why it’s important
Screening can find (and remove) abnormal cells before they turn into cancer or find cancer in its early stages.

Deaths that could be prevented
Up to 60%

Your doctor knows you best

If you’re at increased risk for cancer because of your health or family history, talk to your doctor. You may need to be screened more often or earlier than recommended in the general guidelines.
