Find Simple Answers

Our customer service team trains for months to ensure they can answer all of your questions—and they’re always happy to help. Since you may have the same questions, we talked with customer service representative Maria Andrade to find out what members are asking.

How can I look up a claim for or a particular service or office visit I had?
You can find your claims information after logging in to bcbsri.com. Just click on “Claims” on the top left side of the page and then search for medical, dental, or pharmacy claims.

TIP: When you receive a bill from your doctor or hospital, compare it to the amount on your claim for that service on bcbsri.com. If they don’t match, call your doctor to ask why there is a difference.

My doctor just wrote me a new prescription. Is the drug covered under my plan?
You can look up your medications and estimated costs by logging in to bcbsri.com. If a particular drug isn’t covered, you can work with your local pharmacist and your doctor to find a suitable covered replacement.

TIP: After logging in to bcbsri.com, click on “Go to My Pharmacy Benefits Manager.” Then click on “Find medicines.”

How can I pay my monthly premium?
This question usually comes just from our individual or “direct pay” members. If you buy a plan directly from us, there are several ways to pay your plan’s monthly premium. You can log in to your page on bcbsri.com and use our secure payment center to pay by credit card or set up automatic deductions from a bank account. You can also pay over the phone by calling the number on the back of your member ID card or in person at any of our three Your Blue Store℠ locations.

TIP: These types of payments are only available to members enrolled in an individual or Medicare plan and who receive a bill directly from BCBSRI. It does not apply to members covered through their employer.

How do I find a doctor in the BCBSRI network?
You save money by staying in our network, so I help members find a doctor based on their plan and needs. I also explain how members can log in to bcbsri.com and use our Find a Doctor tool. I offer to walk them through the process of creating an account on the site. They can then search for doctors by plan, location, specialty, and many other criteria.

TIP: You can also use the Your Blue Touch app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play or Apple App Store.*

What does it mean?

Many members ask Maria to define common healthcare terms like the ones below.

Deductible – The amount of money you have to pay each year for covered medical expenses before your health plan starts to pay for them. Some services may be covered in full before the deductible.

Example
Hospital stay: $2,500
Deductible: $500

BCBSRI pays $2,000, and you pay $500.

Coinsurance – A percentage of a total medical bill that you pay after you’ve met your deductible.

Example
Office visit: $100
Coinsurance: 20%

BCBSRI pays $80, and you pay $20.

Copayment – A fixed amount of money you’re charged each time you receive a covered healthcare service, such as an office visit or prescription.

Example
Brand name prescription: $285
Copayment: $50

BCBSRI pays $235, and you pay $50.
